Do not dispose of waste near bodies of water such as lakes, rivers or oceans. Plant trees in catchment areas and banks of rivers as well. Trees not only prevent soil erosion but also retain soil moisture and keep rivers flowing. Do not block/stop the natural drains by building or dumping waste on the drains.

To achieve the vision of “garbage-free” cities many urban local bodies across the country have accelerated the remediation process. The government of India has recognized the importance of dumpsite remediation and has set a target of remediating all dumpsites in India by 2025 under the Swacch Bharat Mission (SBM) 2.0.

Segregation of waste at the source is a proactive concept, further easing the process of utilizing, converting the waste to various useful products. It leads to a higher recovery of recyclables, further enabling a hygienic environment for handling waste by waste workers.
